 ARAB ICONS AT HOME

F A M O U S V O I C E S, Q U I E T M O M E N T S.

We know icons like Fairuz, Umm Kulthum and Abdel Halim Hafez on stage; timeless, powerful, larger than life. I fondly remember the voices and images filling my grandmother’s home in Syria. A black and white television humming in the background, my Teta swaying gently to Umm Kulthum. Mornings in our home always carried the legendary voice of Fairuz. It got me to wonder, how did these icons spend their quiet moments? Their mornings, their evenings, at home and unhurried? After much research, I found almost no record of them in those spaces. This series of drawings re-imagines these icons at home in quiet, unseen moments. It aims to reveal the human side behind the voice.

Ready to hang in a 16” x 20” wood frame, available in three frame colors. Click to shop.
